Under that federal law, Massachusetts therapists must prominently post a notice informing uninsured or self-pay patients of their right to a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for expected services.
Notice: Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, therapists must provide uninsured or self-pay patients a written estimate for non-emergency services.
Your Right: You can request a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for expected costs, including therapy, before scheduling.
Timeline: For services scheduled 3+ business days ahead, you must receive a GFE within 1 business day of scheduling; if 10+ days, it must be provided within 3 business days.
Dispute Resolution: If the final bill exceeds the GFE by at least $400, you may initiate a dispute process.
Documentation: It is recommended to save a copy of your GFE.
